Pruned 8-29-13 - SS

Rule 1 - Kill the Hun bombers!

Rule 2 - Kill the Hun bombers!

Rule 3 - Kill the Hun bombers!

Rule 4 - Kill the Hun bombers!

Rule 5 - Kill the Hun bombers!

Rule 6 - Do not engage the Hun scouts!

Rule 7 - Do not engage the Hun scouts!

Rule 8 - If the bombers are escorted, ignore the escorts and kill the bombers.

Rule 9 - If in doubt see rule 1

If we choose to attack the guns we will wipe them out by pairs.  The guns will be grouped as pairs.  Destroying 1 will accomplish nothing.  Both must be destroyed.

Here is the deal.

I don't know what effect the Central guns will have on the game.  I do know that they are not supposed to be able to deprive us of a maximum possible victory.

So...

If no Central bombers drop a bomb we win.  If necessary I will fight for that until we get it.

If a Central bomber kills a tank than were stuck with what we get.

And if that doesn't fully emphasize the importance of killing their 4 bombers I don't know what will.

With whatever authority I have I condone any action that brings a bomber down.

If we have 4 pilots that choose to fly Bristols it will be up to them to determine if they are willing to attack the guns.

They would have 20 minutes to kill the guns before we lose a tank and we can expect to lose tanks at a very unfair rate.

I would allow no more than 4 SE5s to provide cover for attacking the guns.  If two SE5s are lost protecting bombers that are attacking guns I might choose to withdraw the remaining protection.

If the bombers are not attacking the guns then they are part of the mission to get the bombers.  They will be used to scout for the bombers, primarily at the bomber base, and their bombs will be used to kill spawning planes.  These bombers will have access to full support from the SE5s

We will not just be suppressing the bomber base.

We have 8 fighters at a forward base that can make sure they don't launch the bombers.

If we engage their fighters we guarantee a loss.  We did not find their bombers because they waited to launch them after most of our fighters had been lost and we could not mount an effective defense.

We do know that their guns will kill our tanks if left unmolested. Up to 6 in two hours IIRC. Do we want to give them six tanks right off the top? So then we defend 16 instead of 20 against the 4 Halberstadt's we couldn't find in phase one.

It is assumed that the guns will only kill 6 tanks.  We know for a fact that they will NOT be killed at an even rate over the game.

The only way to effectively insist that the guns were too effective if in fact they are is by absolutely stopping the bombers.  The only way to do that is to only allow a fight when the bombers show up.

If we fail to kill all the guns before they drop one tank it will be treated as though we killed them all in the last minute of the game.  That much is VERY clear.

Duff4r and I spoke at length last night with Butzzell and Hett. They determined that there was a timing issue with the guns that has been fixed. However, the timing problem did not become an issue last week because we destroyed the guns so quickly.

As an added piece of HUMINT: they were shocked at how quickly and how thoroughly we destroyed their guns and commented that it gave their guys pause to consider CAPping them better.

In short then: yes, the guns will kill tanks, but the destruction will be spread out over the course of the whole two hours.
