BrisfitsOnce again the trench map plane will roll first as the start flare is in the air. Followed immediately by the arty spot. These aircraft will be without direct escort. Fighter sweeps along the Central front will involve all the scout planes and preclude the need for a direct escort. Overcast is expected and it is recommended the trench plane fly at the maximum level that the trenches may be observed through the bomb sight. (about 7000’)
The main body of Green Flight will proceed as they deem fit to the 5 targets behind enemy lines. The earlier you cross the lines the closer support will be should the enemy have a CAP in place. Expect to be reinforced by Stubby, trench and arty spot.
Fighter Sweeps Red Flight will take the split flight routs and roll last out of each drome. Blue Flight the north rout. And Yellow the south rout. Take the time to form up but 5 minutes is too long, get moving. All flights should fly at 5000’ so there is a chance of spotting low flying aircraft. (Remember overcast is at 7000’ so your not over exposing yourselves to a disadvantage.) Follow your indicated flight paths until you have reason not to. I honestly don’t expect any patrols to end as shown.
Until your flight has returned across the lines keep comms to the absolute minimum. Any flight meeting the enemy should consider calling on another flight to back them up and we need to keep the confusion of multiple comms as low as possible. There is a possibility of Green flight calling for assistance as well. And of course, your highly likely to have enemy contacts.
At any time you should be able to have 6 – 8 SE5s to an engagement quickly. Engage all enemy 2seaters. Pfalz’s at flight/element leads discretion. I suspect your discretion will be KILL!
As scout flights return flight leads should coordinate the discovery and CAPing of the active bridge and active HQ, as well as the spy landing zones. Defaults would be same as last week, red flight-spy, blue flight-bridge, gold flight-HQ.
Offensive meat grinding engagements are fine as long as:
1) We are not taking the brunt of it.
2) We are getting 2seater kills.
