While in combat operations against the enemy during the Defense of England, Flanders in Flames XVIII, Hawg performed to a high degree of excellence in that he destroyed seven enemy aircraft over the course of the campaign without loss of life. Hawg used his outstanding flying skills to reduce the enemy's ability to fight, then swiftly dispatched them. Hawg's contribution to the effort to push the Germans back to the Channel is in keeping with the highest standards of the armed services. His performance of duty reflects great credit upon himself, No.42 Squadron and the British Empire.

As the Commanding Officer of No.42_Squadron, I commend you for your efforts and in recognition from a sincerely grateful command staff and the pilots of the No.42_Squadron, award you the Distinguished Conduct Medal.
