Came across a really good read on Phillip Dalton, the man who invented the E6B (and several earlier variants). Guy had a Master's in physics and went into Naval Aviation. Was killed in a training accident in 1941. Enjoy:

I still have my original E6B someplace and the maneuvering board, used that a lot and it saved me from going on an unplanned swim one day, story for another day.
