peek at the future of memory storage

Saw a 2 paragraph blurb in a science newsletter today about digital data storage using DNA. Yes the same stuff our bodies are made of that stores all our genetic info.

They placed 1 petabyte of information on DNA and then recovered all of it 100% intact.

(megabyte, gigabyte, terabyte, petabyte, exabyte) Been wondering what came next myself.

Article said one cubic millimeter could hold an exabyte of digital memory.

If they can make this economically reproducible in the near future SSD drives could have a short lifespan on the market.

Sounds like Star Trek: voyager.... They had some sort of bio storage

That's a real issue. Check out Folding that nVidia supports. Processing these large amounts of data is the biggest issue now. Good luck engineers right!?

Heard about this on NPR a few weeks ago. The process by which you write and retrieve info is pretty involved though.
