PostSubject: track ir 4 or 5 ?   Wed Mar 19, 2014 5:04 am

I currently use free track. unfortunately it has developed a bug that it likes to shut off just after I launch the game.
have tried everything I could think of to fix but to no avail.
very annoying and very annoying ( yeah I said it twice )
unless anyone has a thought on a fix if youv'e experienced this on your end, my option is ...

track ir 5 with the pro clip for $170.00
OR
track ir 4 pro with the pro clip for $120.00

also would like to see your thoughts on version 4 vs 5

thanks guys

When I upgraded from 4 to 5 I also added the pro clip so its hard to say what made the biggest difference. I can tell you the 5 with the Pro Clip is a quantum leap in functionality over just the 4.
If you fly a lot I would say its worth the money to go with the 5.

I dumped my proclip and stuck with reflectors and still found the TrackIR 5 to be leaps and bounds above my TrackIR 4. I think the biggest difference is the larger angle on the IR cone.

There ya go.

I think the pro clip is a great piece of gear but is it REALLY fragile. I over came this by wrapping all the joints with thermostat wire to reinforce them, now it works great.

I got my Track IR 5 with reflectors nearly two years ago from this place for $140, free shipping and received it in three days.

I use the TIR5 with the Pro Clip, I don't have anything to compare it to but I will say it works flawlessly.... knock on wood.

Not sure if anyone has tried Requium's TIR profile but I have been using it for a while and it is fantastic... worth giving it a try I say. I have placed that file in the TS3 Ready Room file browser for any one that may be interested.

Thanks all,
Now comes the should I shouldn't I hesitation when it comes to clicking the BUY button.

looks like the ir 5 is the way to go , most likely the pro clip and reinforce the joints.

will be a few days before I break down and just click the button.

thanks again all for the thoughts

I have TIR5 Pro, and can attest both for the nice effect, of the hardware/software, and of the extreme frangibility of the clip, which is truly a design that ought to have been strangled at birth. However, as others have pointed-out, it's remediable with a bit of thought. I've made a loop of Velcro which wraps around the clip, with holes for the headset, which does the job nicely.

There are drawbacks to using TIR in ROF. I've found it harder to combine a swift transition to rear-view, without having a overly frisky movement when zoomed-in looking for distant bandits. It's probably helped me keep close bandits in sight during ACM, at the cost of missing distant ones more frequently than previously.

YMMV

I stuck with the reflectors since I don't want to wear a headset. Just as well, I'm sure regardless of reinforcement I would have managed to destroy it.

My biggest problem is when I lean forward and then try to look around high or aft. It took awhile to realize I was setting the view when I was leaned back in a relaxed position and tended to sit upright or lean forward in combat.

My difficulty with the reflectors is the paroxysms of sheer helpless mirth my wearing it induced in #1 wife. It was not a happy experience, and I still wince at the memory...

All I can do is add to the others.

Try eBay: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I have had TIR 2, 3, and now 5

TrackIR 4 or 5 shouldn't matter but I would get the 5. TrackIR 4 can use the 5 software.

The Proclip is fragile but IMHO makes the whole TIR thing work. Reflectors are well, OK and if you don't wear a headset then that's a no brainer.

Yeah I think the 5 is the way I'm going and the pro clip as well .

Ebay as far as I sawhas the 5 with standard clip ( reflectors ) for 150 .
and with the pro clip for 160 .

basically the same price as the manufacture .

would rather order from the horses mouth and not an ebay who are you ?

Ya know.....you just made the very best choice. With care you will have it for years and the Proclip, should you break it just really ain't that much money. There are articles on repairing the Proclip.

Also, FWIW I used both the reflectors and the Proclip when I first bought mine. You will get both. In my room with my lighting it was the LED's handsdown.

I have TiR5 and the proclip. The best! DPI from 4 to 5 is noticeable. 5 is the best choice.

TrackIR 5 is my last TrackIR. I'm holding out for the next generation data plug behind my right ear that directly streams visual information to my brain. Gold contacts of course.
