| For Bringing honor to the No.42 Squadron, both in air combat and on the Rise of Flight Forum, No.42_Yoke did distinguish himself by the following citation:
Yoke, on or about 2 July (2013) while flying a dawn “lone wolf” patrol in his Nieuport 17 on the New Wings Warground server encountered an Albatros D.III flown by Flieger Geyer, later determined to be of Jasta 5. The resulting air combat while intense produced no clear victor; it did result in him being Mentioned in uncoded enemy Dispatches by his admiring opponent: This is a message from you "friend" on the other side of the trenches! Whom did I have the pleasure of sparing with this morning at 5-6AM CST in the New Wings Warground server?? Someone from 42 Squadron in a Brit N 17. I didn't catch the name?
It is difficult to find a worthy opponent who exhibits good sportsmanship and is a real gentleman!! Our dear Haupt. Boelcke would have considered it an honour to fly against you. Same place and time again soon? Yes?
Flieger Geyer
Jasta 5Yoke's unrelenting devotion to duty serves to inspire the other members of No.42 Squadron. His honorable actions and sportsmanship is in keeping with the finest examples of the Code of Conduct, traditions of military service and reflects credit upon himself, his unit, and the Royal Flying Corps. As the Commanding Officer of the No.42_Squadron, I commend you for your efforts and in recognition from a sincerely grateful command staff and the pilots of the No.42_Squadron award you the Distinguished Flying Medal.

| Being named an honorable foe by the "enemy" (or in such a way that the identity of the pilot can be easily determined) is a rarity and a great honor for those who receive such accolades! Yoke, you bring such honor upon yourself and the No.42 squadron with this glowing recognition. I am proud to serve in a squadron that has such character in it.
Many of us have received salutes from our virtual enemy. Geyer took the time and effort to go to the RoF Forums, find our recruiting thread, and post his thoughts in public. WOW!
NavyJake recommended you for this medal and wrote the citation. The response in HQ was swift and unanimous. Your drinks in the O-Club tonight are all on me! (You still have to buy everyone else theirs though...tradition and all...you understand...). | |
