PostSubject: April 3, No42 v JG1, Mission 3   Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:09 pm

This lead post will contain the plans for next week, so stay tuned.
Are you in?

So what I'm thinking this week is a little different. Turns out that much more than just the convoy and the train give material to the last week's battle, so we have to hit a lot of stuff. With any luck and a lot of work we should be able to hit all of the targets.

Green Flight
Space- scout
stubby14- bridge
Lexx- barge
Zed- arty recon
Flatspin- HQ recon

Here are the targets that we know about. We will hit these first since we will know their locations, and hit the others after they are reconned. We need pilots to take specific responsibility (as in volunteer) for:
Bridge (loc to be announced; need 3 spans down): stubby14
Barge (loc to be announced): Lexx (can use again if barge is taken down with first shot)
Arty spot (which to be announced): Zed

After these runs are made, station DH4s in the eastern areas via the north. These can begin scouting for the spawn targets, and be called in by the Green scout or Red flight if they find targets.

The other targets need to be reconned and/or found. In order to cover the most ground without losing bombers, I will take a Spad as a scout, checking areas from south to north. I'll find targets, record and transmit their locations, then move on to the next. Scout can also use guns on the train (engine only needed) and the convoy (all 4 trucks needed).

That leaves us with the following targets to be found in game and taken:
Supply train (can be hit with scout)
Convoy (can be hit with scout)
HQ recon Flatspin (dedicated recon plane; recons do NOT need to have camera or radio, but may carry ordnance.)
Staging area recon (?? I have yet to get a difinitive answer from JG1_Butzell on this, and the rules are ambiguous on it; stay tuned.)

Red Flight
Rooster
Hawg
Bandy
(Skeeter, late and maybe)

Red flight will put a CAP on the enemy aerodromes. I am not overly worried about the D2 drome in the center. They are bad, but cumbersome and all of our planes can out run and out manever them. With the 4 signed up now, 1 should station over the bomer drome (north) and 3 should station over the D3 drome (south). When a plane comes in for landing, or spawns for takeoff, kill it. Deplete their good stuff and then we can work on their clunkers if those pose a threat. Red flight's position should preclude the need to escort our bombers, so we will be able to cover more of the map. Red should also watch for trains and convoys passing through their areas, or the HQ recon target. If you do see one and decide not to call in a bomber, send only a SINGLE plane down to deal with it, maintain CAP with the rest.

Blue Flight
NavyJake
Awde
Shnoze Shmon

Blue will maintain a interdiction posture, mainly in the south. Find which of the objects are active targets by finding the truck. I would also recommend sending a scout along the norther train and road routes so that we can camp on their rolling stock if we find it. Last week I saw one of their bombers in the north, right on the deck and following the rail line.

safety or to ruin. Hence it is a subject of inquiry which can on no account be neglected.

In. Put me back in scouts if you need cannon fodder. That's all I am good for in scouts.

No Stubb we will keep you where you need to be. Low and slow :)
And for the record you didn't do any worse than the rest of us!!

What do you guys think about having a strategy/planning session on TS on Tuesday to lay out the flights?

Strategy Discussion is one of the things this thread is for. Space is the commander of this tournament so he will lay out the flights after consulting everyone's inputs here. What happened this week will not happen again (no map/plans until moments before launch). I don't know about meeting on TS another night other than existing squad nights...kinda maxed out.

If you need me in a N17 again, someone pull out their pistol and shoot me before I get in the air. Results will be the same and we will deny them the victory points. Cool

S! Space
does the HQ location change each mission?
that location I discovered in mission two would be worth checking again.
sector 15 /charlie .close to key pad 2 ,right off the tip of the lake that looks like a boot in sector 21 /bravo

It does change each mission, unfortunately. However, there is a 1:8 chance it will be in the same place this Wednesday...we need to commit these locations to a map so we know where to look for Herr General.

Yes it does, and there are 4 different ones as well, the vehicle there is the key. Of course, if you go over it the target will give the message whether you see the vehicle or not.

Bombers, that means if you want to take responsibility for one of those missions, speak up.

I messed up not taking a photo of the HQ in question but it looked like an airfield with hangers set at odd angles ,none of this four in a row I was hearing about , hangers facing each other where they shouldn't be. and no tan colored landing area that was another important factor that I noticed first. there was flak but I never saw the vehicle so now I am thinking that I found one of the other three possible locations

Yes Awde, turns out all 4 of them are a little different. I made that assumption because I found the HQ 2x ina row, both wth the 4x buildings and got the appropriate message. But it seems that I forgot Statistics 101- just because something happens that does not reduce the probability of that same event happening the next time.
