Butzzell is upping the plane numbers at the fighter bases to 12 each. However, for the remainder of this tournament, we will be "Dead is Dead" — so if you die, you are out. If you return to base alive you may replane. Butzzell also found some coding issues that he fixed that should make the replaning issues we had go away.

I trust this holds true for forced down behind enemy lines as well, but what about landing away from your drome on your own side?

For example I ran out of gas and had to land at our HQ.

Another question is the game shows you as downed but you land/crashland and may or may not be injured, but no death view?

A plane crashed or landed any way is out of play. A living pilot may get a new remaining plane and fly again.

I don't know what you mean in your last question.

S!

This was posted earlier:

Game operation.

The file is designed to be started at 10 minutes before the hour. Game clock is set at 10:50. When the in cockpit clock strikes 11:00, all planes may take off. The 10 minutes is used to get people on the server and then have a universal start time. During those 10 minutes the game will display subtitles listing designated/active targets. These targets are the active bridge, ship and artillery position. Supply column, train and recon targets are not displayed.

The mission gives a 10 minute end of session warning at 1:50 on the cockpit clock. At 2:00 pm the mission ends. A subtitle announces hostilities are over. This is followed by a subtitle that list Allied mission that were successful. 20 seconds later the German victories are displayed. After another 20 seconds the game terminates. It is advised to do screen shots of the Allied and German Victories.

Game mechanics

Bombing.
There are 2 designated targets. The Barge and the Bridge.
The barge is straight forward and has an icon on the map. There are 4 icons each with a different label. The active location is displayed by subtitle during the first 10 minutes of the game, 10:50 - 11:00
The bridge is designated by an active artillery truck on the bridge. Destroying 3 spans is considered success. The bridge can be destroyed without killing the truck. Killing the truck activates the bridge destruction subtitle at the end of session. Since it is not essential to kill the truck, a photo of the bridge with 3 spans down can be submitted for confirmation. The bridge has an icon on the map. There are 4 icons each with a different label. The active location is displayed by subtitle during the first 10 minutes of the session, 10:50 - 11:00

There are 2 non designated bombing targets. The supply column and the train. While these targets are listed as bombing targets, they may be strafed as well.
These targets are not shown on the map.
The train is considered killed when the engine is destroyed. This activates the train destroyed subtitle at the end of session.
The supply column is 4 vehicles, one of which is an artillery truck. All 4 must be destroyed to activate the Supply column destroyed subtitle at the end of session.

Recon
There is one out of 4 possible recon targets active per side. The target appears as an Airdrome but without the tan landing area. The active target has a vehicle moving about in close proximity. The Allied target has a tank. The German target has a truck. There are 4 planes available per side for recon duty, only aircraft with recon in their name are able to do this mission. The aircraft must pass over the recon target at an altitude above 1500m and less than 2500 meters. The plane must be within 1 km horizontal distance. The plane must land in friendly territory and come to a complete stop. It is advised to wait 15 seconds before hitting the finish mission button. Landing alive and being stationary are what triggers the mission success counter. Crashing may negate the mission success counter. It is recommended to take a screen shot of the target to confirm the mission in case of game mechanics failure.

Artillery spotting.
There are 2 targets per side. Only one is active during a session. The active target is announced by subtitle during the first 10 minutes of the session, 10:50 - 11:00. There are four planes available for this mission. Only planes with arty in their names can do this mission. The plane must pass over the friendly the friendly guns at an altitude of more than 750m and less than 1250m. The plane must be within 500m horizontal distance. This activates the guns. The plane must fly across the front and to within 1km vertical and horizontal of the supply buildings. The plane then reports back to the guns within the same parameters as the start of mission and then repeats his observation of the target. This pattern is repeated until there is destruction of 3 out of 6 of the supply buildings which designates success as does the removal of the guns.

Game design

This is a snapshot of the air war in WWI. This is a 2 phase scenario in which the Supply acquisition phase (described above) is conducted for several weeks. The second phase or Finale (not described) is a single battle in which the supplies acquired in the first phase contribute to resources on the battlefield.

The missions are not designed to be difficult. They are designed to take some time. This is done to increase the probability of enemy encounter. Because there are so many missions to perform and at a variety of positions on the map each team will have to do multiple missions at the same time. This will mean dividing up the forces and trying to accomplish as many as possible.

Each session has the same type and number of targets. The location of the targets is not known until just 10 minutes before takeoff. The job of the commanders is to insure that he has people designated for each mission and a time line for when these are to take place.

The maps could screw us, unless we are VERY careful about that! And plan accordingly...

All of their targes are along a single river, on both maps. This means they only have to come up with 1 plan to run every mission. Our are scattered all over the map on both, so we have to be much more flexible.

On the other hand, it also means that we can anticipate their ingress and place our interceptors accordingly. Laughing

Yellow spots are where the targets are on the other version of the game map.

Red and blue circles are balloon coverage.

Green circle is distance from hun bomber base to the front. As seen here our bomberas are more than twice as far from the front as hun bombers.

Also notice that the artillery that the huns have to attack are on the edge of our balloon coverage, where the ones we attack are much better covered.

I got no worries. IMO this is the perfect training! Odds are against us. Any victory we pull is worth much more just that. And best part is that JG1 will know it.

Blue Flight,

Make sure you have a copy of the Map\Maps for your knee board before Wednesday night.

Also, who from blue flight will be around to fly next Wednesday the 20th? I will be on a business trip all week and unavailable.

Salute

So if they are concentrating on the southern river for attack purposes, we defend the south with scouts and our bombers and recon take the northern route into their heartland exactly like we did in practice. The fact that their targets are spread out makes them divide their force while our scouts can set up a single barrier line to take em down.

We stealth in and then dive for home.
