Below are the historical WWI medals that we'll use in RoF for No.42 Squadron. The actual criteria has been altered to suit our mission in the simulation. Please feel free to follow the guidelines in recommending pilots for medals. Recommendations should be made to your Flight Leader, the XO and CO by PM. Please include detailed reason(s) why the person you think should get the medal.

MEDAL RECOMMENDATION:
I, ____________, recommend pilot __________  for the __________ Medal because of the action of _______.

Listed from highest to lowest achievement.

VICTORIA CROSS

Awarded by CO in the name of George V, King of England in recognition of constant, unwavering dedication and loyalty to England in representing No.42 Squadron including repeated acts of bravery, valor and commitment to duty in the face of the enemy as well as contribution to the squad as a whole in a non-combat role. Recommendation: CO or XO. Awarded by: unanimous secret vote of HQ. ("Secret" meaning once it goes to a vote, nobody shall explain their vote, so nobody is on the line to defend their "nay" vote).

ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE

NOTE: There are many classes of this order, only one is represented for our needs.

Awarded by CO in the name of George V, King of England for repeated conspicuous acts of gallantry, valor and loyalty in representing No.42 Squadron to its allies and the entire RoF community. Awardee is known as a pillar of the community and promotes No.42 Squadron in such a way as to elevate its status among friends and foe alike. Recommendation: CO or XO. Awarded by: majority secret vote of HQ.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER

Awarded by CO for constant and consistent gallantry in the face of the enemy or repeated acts of valor during a campaign. Recipient will serve the squad in a capacity of mission planner or have lead at least one flight in one mission against the enemy and shall embody a level of valor as to exceed the citation of lesser medals. Recommendation: Any HQ member. Awarded by: majority secret vote of HQ.

MILITARY CROSS

Awarded by CO for exceptional service to No.42 Squadron in any capacity, be it administrative, training, leadership or single acts of skill or bravery. Recommendation: Any HQ member. Awarded by majority vote of HQ.

DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS

Awarded by CO or XO for an act or acts of valor, courage or devotion to duty in active operations against the enemy. Examples of such acts include but should not be limited to: single-handedly destroying a target or shooting down 5 aircraft in one sortie. Recommendation: any squad member. Awarded by majority vote of HQ.

DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL

Awarded by CO or XO for distinguishing oneself in combat such that it is determined by one and seconded by another member of No.42 that without the pilot's efforts the mission would have failed. Also awarded for becoming an "Ace" over the course of one virtual life (5 planes shot down or 10 ground objects destroyed without death). Recommendation: any squad member and seconded by another. Awarded by majority vote of HQ.

MILITARY MEDAL

Awarded by CO or XO for a singular act of bravery or achievement of goal in the face of the enemy in an official campaign where virtual life is tracked. Pilot must survive the mission to receive the medal. Examples of such acts should include but not be limited to: shooting down enemy aircraft, clearing a wingman's tail enabling him to survive, destruction of two or more enemy ground units. Recommendation: any squad member. Awarded by majority vote of HQ.

DISTINGUISHED FLYING MEDAL

Awarded by CO or XO for singular acts of gallantry when flying in active operations against the enemy, such as, but not limited to being "mentioned in dispaches" by name by either friendly or enemy forces. Recommendation: any squad member. Awarded by majority vote of HQ.

PITA (Pain in the Ass) AWARD

Awarded by CO, XO or Flight Leaders for a singular act or repeated acts of supreme boneheadedness, ass-hattary or getting the simplest things wrong. Awardee typically struggles finding his ass with both hands or by sitting down. Recommendation: any squad member. Awarded by a single "Yes" vote in HQ.

Meritorious Unit (Flight) Commendation
Awarded by CO or XO for exceptionally meritorious conduct during the performance of an outstanding achievement or service, that directly supported combat operations during a sanctioned tournament or event. The unit must have displayed outstanding devotion and superior performance of their assigned and exceptionally difficult tasks such as to set that unit apart and above other units with similar missions. Subsequent awards of the ribbon are denoted by bronze oak leaf clusters. Recommendation: any HQ member. Awarded by unanimous vote of HQ. Wearing will be first place below the lowest medal awarded to an individual.

RFC Service Ribbon
Any current or former No.42 Sqn pilot wears the Service Ribbon in recognition of their service to King, Country and the RFC.

Battle of Arras Campaign Ribbon
Achieved by participating in at least one mission or the planning of one mission of the No.42 Sqn vs. JG1 Battle of Arras, 1917 Mini-Tournament.

Bump

Train the way you'll fight and fight the way you've trained; and above all -- remember the mission!
