For meritorious service while assigned to Red Flight in RFC No.42 Squadron, Maple did support squad operations by the following citation:

While in combat operations against the enemy in the defense of England, Flanders in Flames XVIII, Maple skillfully destroyed 3 enemy planes in a single mission. Maple's skill as a fighter, his cool-headedness and steadfast devotion to his flight enabled him to engage the enemy in the middle of a confusing battle and come to the aid of his squadmates which helped to turn the tide of the battle. His performance of duty reflects great credit upon himself, No.42 Squadron and the British Empire.

As the Commanding Officer of the No.42_Squadron, I commend you for your efforts and in recognition from a sincerely grateful command staff and the pilots of the No.42_Squadron award you the Military Medal.
